Lesson Philosophy - Holistic and flexible
I specialize in being able to adjust to the students needs. My approach to teaching is holistic. For young ones especially, it is important they have a broad understanding of all the components of music. This includes ear training, basic concepts of theory, fluency in reading, and the ability to listen to other players while focusing on executing their instrumental technique.
Adjusting to the student
I understand that not all students are aiming for a career in music, and I have an appreciation for other disciplines such as sports or mathematics. I believe that studying in music improves all other areas since it has been suggested by multiple studies that music uses disparate areas of the brain in tandem more than any other activity. This is uniquely useful for both the young developing brain as well as helping maintain mental elasticity in older students.
Offered lessons
I offer cello from beginner to aspiring professional, piano from beginner to intermediate/advanced, and composition plus theory lessons. I have had success with online lessons as well as in person. I recommend weekly lessons but my scheduling is adjustable and I do not require any number of prepaid lessons. You can pay as you go, or by month, in advance or arrears.
